Today, the SPIRIT Agency published an informative list of approved applications from companies that have recently received decisions on co-financing under the Public Call for Proposals for the Promotion of Investments for Economic Restructuring in the Zasavska and Savinjska-Šaleška coal mining regions under the Just Transition Fund for the period 2024–2027.

A total of 71 applications were received from both regions in response to the public call for proposals, and 24 applications will receive co-financing totaling EUR 82,961,206.64. During the application review process, the SPIRIT Agency determined that the funds requested in the applications exceeded the amount of funds available.

Following this call for proposals, the new funds available for the SAŠA region amounted to EUR 52,499,900.00 (just under EUR 10 million more). Funds from the Just Transition Fund will thus support 15 project ideas from large, medium-sized, and small enterprises in the SAŠA region.

The purpose of the public call, which was announced between 24 May and 15 July 2024, is to restructure the Zasavje and Savinjsko-Šaleška coal mining regions economically by promoting new jobs and diverse, sustainable investments that will help mitigate the consequences of the abandonment of coal mining.

The objectives to which the public call will contribute are to increase the added value per employee in the coal mining region, reducing the dependence of the economy of the Zasavje and SAŠA coal mining regions on fossil fuels, increasing the number of (foreign/domestic) investments in the coal mining region, and diversifying the economy in the coal mining region.
