ABOUT THE CENTER

SAŠA Just Transition Centre

As part of the SAŠA Development Agency, the SAŠA Just Transition Centre (JTC SAŠA) has been operating since 2022. As the main information point, it ensures the consistent implementation of information and communication measures for both local stakeholders in the just transition (citizens, project sponsors, coal mining employees, etc.) as well as the wider interested public.

The Centre carries out the following activities:

Establishing local partnerships and networking for the implementation of projects or operations;
Implementing training and strengthening the capacity of project sponsors;
Providing support in project preparation (support in developing project ideas, preparing applications, investment documentation, etc.);
Monitoring project implementation and providing support in project management;
Recording spatially and environmentally degraded areas (status, optimal use, method and timeline for remediation) and preparing a vision for the revitalisation of coal mining heritage;
Preparing studies and analyses necessary for the effective and timely implementation of the strategy and related programmes, measures or projects.

The activities of the JTC SAŠA are fully financed from the technical assistance of the Just Transition Fund.

AREAS OF OPERATION

The Just Transition Centre focuses on four areas of activity

The four areas of action focus on the economy, society, the environment, and energy. The emphasis is on a just transition that promotes sustainability, social inclusion, diversity, and the development of low-carbon energy.

ENERGY

Renovation of the district heating system in the Šaleška Valley. ------------------------------ Measures to improve energy efficiency in the economy. ------------------------------ Energy production from renewable energy sources.

ECONOMY

Investments in research, development , and innovation, digitization, and production capacity. ----------------- Upgrading the startup ecosystem, including economic and business infrastructure.

SOCIETY

Enhanced implementation of high-quality and accessible learning, and the digital transformation of the school environment. ---------------------------- Introducing circular economy content into the education system. ---------------------------- Lifelong career guidance and training for the unemployed and job seekers .

ENVIRONMENT

Gradual remediation and revitalization of areas that are spatially and environmentally degraded . ---------------------------- Demolition and change of the purpose of facilities related to coal use.
