In 2026, as part of the Just Transition Centre, we will organize a diverse range of events aimed at various target groups in the region.
A special set of activities will focus on the economy, where we aim to promote entrepreneurial thinking, innovation, the development of key competencies for the future, and the search for solutions to current economic problems. We will link the economy to the energy sector, which remains an important part of our community. Another series of events will be dedicated to young people. Through these events, we aim to inform young people about the implementation of the Just Transition process in the region and introduce them to the jobs of the future—those that the SAŠA region already offers or will particularly need in the coming years.
We will collaborate with local communities, nongovernmental organizations, and others to organize events for employees who wish to retrain, workshops for residents on the topic of the green transition, and similar initiatives.

Roundtable Discussion: “Our Knowledge—A New Path”

The gradual phase-out of coal could pose numerous challenges for the SAŠA region, particularly in the economic sphere. Many companies are closely tied to the Velenje Coal Mine and the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant, so as the energy sector undergoes restructuring, they face uncertainty and the need to adapt. That is precisely why we are organizing an event aimed at identifying new opportunities for the industrialization of companies in the energy sector. Through this event, we aim to encourage reflection on diversifying business activities, developing new technologies, and strengthening competencies that will enable companies to successfully transition to a more sustainable and competitive economy.
SAŠA Region Development Conference

The event will provide an opportunity to compare different perspectives on how the SAŠA region can achieve both a developmental and a green breakthrough. Through a stimulating discussion, we aim to address key issues that will shape the region’s future—from phasing out coal to post-flood recovery and ensuring long-term security. The event will be an important step toward shaping a shared vision for the future of the SAŠA region.
Career Opportunities at SAŠA 2026

The event will bring together elementary schools, businesses, institutions, and the local community for a one-day program that will introduce young people to a wide range of technical, healthcare, social, economic, and other professions. Special emphasis will also be placed on the professions of the future, shaped by digitalization and the green transition. At the same time, the event will be an excellent opportunity for local companies to connect with young talent and give them a glimpse into their work environment and staffing needs for the coming years.
