In April and May, we are organizing a series of lectures and workshops titled “Circularity in the Household: Small Habits for Big Changes.” These address the necessary changes in residents’ lifestyles to achieve climate neutrality, adapt to climate change, and mitigate its negative effects. After all, every single individual plays a role and deserves credit in achieving these goals and improving living conditions.
Green Spaces for a Healthy Lifestyle: The Importance of Nature in Urban Environments

On Earth Day, April 22, 2026, we will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Velenje Castle.
In the first part, we will listen to Špela Berlot Veselko from the Association for the Protection of the Alps, CIPRA Slovenia, on why green spaces in cities are crucial for quality of life, how they can help mitigate climate change in urban areas, and what role individuals in cities can play in better preserving green spaces. Rising temperatures and more frequent extreme weather events underscore the need to preserve and thoughtfully develop urban green spaces. In conclusion, we will present inspiring examples of best practices from abroad, including Vienna and Switzerland, and highlight the role of the individual in helping to create a healthier and more climate-resilient urban environment. In the second part, we will take a walk around the castle and with Jernej Mazej learn about edible plants in an urban setting. We are organizing this event in collaboration with the Velenje Museum.

Steps That Count: Sustainable Mobility for a Better Tomorrow

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, we will meet at 5:00 p.m. in Velenje, at the Planet Generacij+ Multigenerational Center (Center Nova, 2nd floor). We will discuss current transportation trends in Slovenia and the impact of transportation on people’s health. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of active mobility for health and quality of life, and we will also present the concept of the “15-minute city,” the specifics of the local environment, and opportunities for actively involving residents in transportation policy planning. The second part will present concrete steps for individuals and communities: the importance of children walking to school, sustainable options for commuting to work, carpooling opportunities, and the public transit system in Slovenia. Participants will try out online platforms that allow them to choose the most appropriate mode of transportation, plan activities using public transit, and calculate the actual costs of using a personal car. The lecture and workshop will be led by Špela Berlot Veselko from the Alpine Conservation Association, CIPRA Slovenia. We are organizing this event in collaboration with the Planet Generacij+ Multigenerational Center.
